The last Santa Special hauled by the Breton locomotive

Jeudi 13 Décembre 2018 The last Santa Special hauled by the Breton locomotive Restored in 2009, 230 E 332 hauled trains round the Somme Bay for 9 years. Locomotive boilers are certified every 10 years by regulatory entities. Once the 10 years are over, the boiler certificate "expires". Such was the case for E 332 at the end of this season, in mid-November, meaning the engine could not haul the Santa Specials in December. On Thursday 13th December, the locomotive having been fired up and its safety valves tested with a boiler inspector in attendance, an official exemption was granted for a few days. E 332 ran down to St Valery harbour to be turned on the turntable. On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December 2018, it will haul the Santa Specials between St Valery and Cayeux, its ultimate run before returning to the works. It will then have to undergo a full mechanical overhaul and inspection of its boiler before being able to run again on the railway. The video is visible by clicking on this link
