What’s new on the CFBS?

Mercredi 26 Septembre 2018 What’s new on the CFBS? A reader of our web page recently wondered about CFBS news, as the page hadn’t been updated since January. It’s true that we had given priority to social networks when communicating about what’s going on. For those who are less keen on such networks, we are updating this online news.

A busy season for the CFBS

On 9th and 10th June, the CFBS celebrated the complete rebuilding of the Noyelles-Le Crotoy line, a project financed by the Somme département. A friendly atmosphere, bringing together elected representatives, local communities and their associations, as well as CFBS employees and volunteers. During the season, everyone got a chance to admire the quality of the work carried out.

The fireworks train on 13th July 2018

95 passengers travelled on the railway to admire the many firework displays that took place around the Somme Bay on the eve of Bastille Day. Extra bonuses were a beautiful sunset and plates of tasties to fully enjoy the evening; some 10 fireworks were visible from the embankment at the back of the Bay, with those of St Valery and of Le Crotoy in the foreground.

The Cayeux station fête on 15th August 2018

Since 2001, the CFBS has been organizing a fête at the station, in partnership with the town of Cayeux. As was the case in 2017, this fête was combined in 2018 with the flower gala. Partly thanks to fine sunny weather, the event was a great success. There was live music, a miniature live steam train, Picardy games, make-up for children, not forgetting a 100% reinforced steam service on the line.

The CFBS is advertising

Three video clips explaining how the CFBS got started, its aims and the services it offers were shot to be broadcast on the France 3 TV channel in the early summer, as episodes and just before the popular  “Plus Belle la Vie” programme. A way of helping to promote our region and our activities. These videos are available on the page « En images/nos vidéos/ publi reportages CFBS 1, 2 et 3 »

The European Heritage Days on 15th and 16th September 2018

The CFBS works at St Valery-Canal saw close on 900 visitors pass through over two days, encouraged by sunny weather. In addition to the service trains that called at the depot, a public shuttle service ran between the harbour, St Valery Ville and St Valery-Canal. Guided tours of the works were organized, while children and grown-ups enjoyed riding the miniature live steam train, the shop and the refreshment stand. The CFBS volunteers took this opportunity to celebrate the end of restoration work on the former Réseau Breton Kf 1590 box-van.

British gricers, faithful visitors to the railway

From 18th to au 20th September, and for the third time since 2014, a group of British gricers chartered special steam trains with different locomotives and consists to travel all over the railway. Exceptionally fine weather provided the opportunity for some outstanding railway photography.

Gastronomic Day on 19th September 2018

Following a well-established tradition some 400 people gathered in Le Crotoy station to enjoy menus prepared by local chefs with delicacies from the Somme Bay.

The CFBS on the France 5 channel on Sunday 23rd September 2018

A splendid documentary about heritage railways and their significant contribution to the local economy.  The CFBS figured prominently, with some beautiful views of the Somme Bay and of the railway in its outstanding natural environment.
